(BNP) - On March 11th, the Government Office hosted an online conference on the development of the global silver economy and the adaptation of policies and strategies in Vietnam. The summit was presided by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long was also in attendance, as were leaders from other ministries, sectors, agencies, and central divisions.
Delegates attend the conference at the Bac Ninh’s venue.
At the Bac Ninh’s venue, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Loi chaired the meeting.
In his opening remarks at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that this important conference has long-term strategic significance for sustainable development, and although it is a new topic, it is meaningful in the context of the rapidly aging population occurring globally in general and in Vietnam in particular.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing the potential for developing a "silver economy" in Vietnam; sharing international experiences; and proposing mechanisms and policies to develop service sectors for the elderly such as healthcare, tourism, finance, housing, assistive technology, and suitable consumer products for the elderly population, promoting the development of the "silver economy" and creating new impetus for growth.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Le Xuan Loi stated that in recent years, Bac Ninh has always prioritized the implementation of policies to care for, protect, and promote the role of the elderly, including fully implementing social allowances, health insurance, and developing club models and cultural and sports activities to improve the spiritual lives of the elderly.
By the end of 2025, the province will have over 560,000 elderly people, accounting for 15.55% of the population; 99 communes and wards have reorganized the Elderly Association at the commune level; 99% of elderly people have been issued health insurance cards; the rate of elderly people with health monitoring records reaches 88.5%; 156,978 elderly people receive monthly social allowances and social retirement benefits as prescribed; 8,725 Elderly Clubs attract 242,282 members...
In the coming period, Bac Ninh province will continue to direct the development of long-term healthcare services for the elderly; encourage businesses to invest in products and services for the elderly; and promote the application of science and technology in caring for and supporting the lives of the elderly, creating conditions for the elderly to continue participating in socio-economic activities suitable to their health, and utilizing their experience and knowledge in the community.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed at the conference's conclusion that creating a "silver economy" is not only necessary to accommodate an older population but also a chance to advance sustainable economic growth and create a compassionate society.
The Prime Minister urged ministries, sectors, and local governments to continue researching and perfecting mechanisms and policies to fully realize the potential of the "silver economy," creating conditions for the elderly to continue playing their roles and contributing to their families and society. At the same time, they should improve the quality of care services so that the elderly can live happy, healthy, and productive lives.
