(BNP) – On the morning of January 20, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam officially opened at the National Convention Center (Hanoi).

The congress's motto was: "Unity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development". The congress was attended by 1,586 delegates, representing over 5.6 million party members nationwide.
On the morning of January 19th, the congress held its preliminary session. Attending the preliminary session were General Secretary To Lam; members of the Politburo: President Luong Cuong; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; other members of the Politburo, Secretaries of the Central Committee, members of the Central Committee, and delegates to the congress.
At the preparatory session, the congress observed a minute of silence to commemorate the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other members of the 13th Central Committee who passed away during the 13th Party Congress term.
Next, the congress voted unanimously to approve the Program for the Preparatory Session; the Rules of Procedure of the Congress; the Program of Work of the Congress; and the Regulations on Elections at the 14th National Congress of the Party.
The Congress elected a Presidium of 16 members, a Secretariat of 5 members, and a Credentials Committee of 13 members. In addition, the Congress unanimously approved the Report on the Credentials of Delegates to the 14th National Congress of the Party, presented by the Credentials Committee. Accordingly, all 1,586 delegates summoned to the Congress were deemed eligible to attend.
