(BNP) - The Ministry of Construction has just issued a Decision approving the Road Infrastructure Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the Decision, the expressway system will comprise 43 routes, with a total length of approximately 8,920 km by 2050. Of these, the North-South axis includes: the Eastern North-South Expressway, approximately 2,065 km long, and the Western North-South Expressway, approximately 1,205 km long. The Northern region will have 14 expressways, approximately 2,242 km long. The Central and Central Highlands regions will have 11 routes, approximately 1,353 km long. The Southern region will have 11 routes, approximately 1,342 km long.
In Hanoi, by 2050, Hanoi will have 3 ring roads with a total length of approximately 417 km. Ho Chi Minh City will have 2 ring roads with a total length of approximately 299 km.
Regarding the national highway system, the plan for 2050 identifies 172 routes nationwide, with a total length of approximately 28,614 km. The North-South axis includes: National Highway 1, approximately 2,218 km long, and the Ho Chi Minh Highway, approximately 1,894 km long.
The northern region comprises 21 major (arterial) national highways, approximately 6,530 km long, and 34 secondary (connecting) national highways, approximately 3,857 km long. The central and Central Highlands regions comprise 24 major national highways, approximately 4,275 km long, and 47 secondary national highways, approximately 4,393 km long. The southern region comprises 17 major national highways, approximately 2,378 km long, and 27 secondary national highways, approximately 3,069 km long.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the land requirement for developing the road system according to the plan is approximately over 200,000 hectares. The investment capital required exceeds VND 3.2 million billion, mobilized from state budget funds, government bonds, ODA loans, non-state budget funds, and other legal sources.
The expansion of expressways will follow the planned scale; upgrading and expanding sections of national highways or constructing bypasses will be determined based on forecasts of transportation demand and the ability to balance resources.
