(BNP) - On the evening of May 20th, at the Uri Palace Event Center (Vo Cuong Ward, Bac Ninh Province), the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Vietnam Judo Federation, and the Bac Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly organized the opening ceremony of the 2026 Southeast Asian Judo Championship.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Mai Son, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Vu Son Ha, Standing Committee Member of the Asian Karate Federation, President of the Southeast Asian Karate Federation; Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports; Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, President of the Vietnam Judo Federation.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Trong Bac, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said: The Southeast Asian Judo Championship in Bac Ninh province is an important sporting event, bringing together more than 400 athletes and coaches from 7 countries including: Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the host team Vietnam. The athletes compete in two categories: Kata and sparring.
The Southeast Asian Judo Championship is an opportunity for countries to enhance exchange, learning, and professional development, while also strengthening solidarity and friendship among the peoples and nations of the region. Through the competition, not only is the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, willpower, perseverance, honesty, and nobility of Judo celebrated, but it also contributes to spreading the values of sports for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development among the nations in the region.

At the ceremony, the Standing Vice Chairman presented traditional craft products to the participating teams and referees; the Organizing Committee presented commemorative gifts to the main sponsor of the tournament.
According to the plan, the 2026 Southeast Asian Judo Championship will take place from May 19-24, 2026 at the Provincial Sports Arena (Vu Ninh Ward, Bac Ninh Province).
