(BNP) – Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the year of the Horse 2026 is an opportunity for every Vietnamese person to return to their national roots, where the sacred spirit of the mountains and rivers converges. With Phu Tho province being formed by the merger of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh provinces, the Hung Temple Festival is held according to the orientation of regional development linkages.
Over many years of organization, Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival has increasingly affirmed itself as a typical national festival, with solemn, respectful, and exemplary ceremonies and rich, attractive festivities imbued with the national identity.
According to the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee's plan for organizing the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the year of the Horse 2026, with a provincial scale and a series of rich activities lasting from April 17th to April 26th, 2026 (from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), the event promises to be a space for the convergence of cultural essence, where every child of Vietnam can make a meaningful journey back to their roots, while affirming the strong vitality of the cultural heritage values of the Hung Kings era in the contemporary flow.
The ceremonial part will be organized solemnly and respectfully with traditional rituals such as: the Hung Kings Commemoration Day incense offering ceremony; the Lac Long Quan National Ancestor Commemoration Day incense offering ceremony; the Au Co Ancestral Mother Commemoration Day incense offering ceremony; the flower offering ceremony at the relief sculpture "Uncle Ho speaking with officers and soldiers of the Vanguard Army"; and the incense offering ceremony of 148 communes and wards in Phu Tho province. The incense offering ceremony on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month (the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day) at Hung Kings' relics and historical sites in Phu Tho province and other provinces and cities nationwide contributes to expanding the practice of Hung Kings' worship.
A highlight of this year's Hung Kings' Commemoration Day is the continued encouragement for each family to prepare a meal to honor their ancestors on this day. This demonstrates the continuation and development of ancestor worship, becoming a strong bond connecting generations of Vietnamese people.
The festival section (Hung Temple Festival and Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week) features a series of unique events, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere. The highlight begins with an impressive opening art program.
This is followed by a diverse range of activities such as: a cultural camp, a folk art festival, a street folk culture festival, and exhibitions showcasing thematic documents on the culture of the Hung Kings' era and the heritage of Hung Kings' worship.
In particular, the first Phu Tho Province Rice Cake Wrapping and Cooking Competition will be organized on a cluster-by-cluster scale, attracting a large number of visitors. Those who love traditional arts can enjoy water puppetry, land puppetry, performances of traditional musical instruments, or performances of ancient Xoan singing.
Sports activities such as the Hung Vuong Cup Volleyball Tournament, the Boat Racing Competition on Van Lang Park Lake, and the "Returning to the Source" Marathon, organized through social initiatives, will also contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.
The Hung Vuong Ancestor Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival in 2026 promises to continue to be a sacred gathering point for all Vietnamese people. This is not only an opportunity to honor the cultural values of the era of the Hung Kings who founded the nation, but also a bridge connecting the past with the present, affirming the principle of "Drinking water, remembering the source," strengthening national unity, and inspiring patriotism and the desire to preserve the cultural heritage of our ancestors for generations to come.
