(BNP) - In order to preserve and promote the value of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage, the An Chau Boat Racing Festival, the People's Committee of Son Dong Commune has just issued Plan No. 14/KH-UBND on organizing the An Chau Boat Racing Festival in 2026.

The An Chau Boat Racing Festival aims to demonstrate the resilience and creative spirit of General Vi Duc Thang and the people of An Chau, Son Dong district (formerly) in training soldiers (naval forces) in river crossing and flood protection skills to defend their homeland against foreign invaders (Le Dynasty, 15th century). The festival will be recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2025.
In 2026, the An Chau Boat Racing Festival will take place over two days, May 25th and 26th (corresponding to the 9th and 10th days of the 4th lunar month of the Year of the Horse), on a commune-wide scale, organized by the People's Committee of Son Dong Commune at the historical and cultural relic site of Che Temple - Ben Chua, Ben Giang, Ben Quan (An Chau River section, upstream of Luc Nam River).
Each village will form two boat racing teams, one men's team and one women's team. Each boat will be a team of 10 athletes, including one helmsman, one commander, and eight rowers. In addition, Son Dong Commune will also organize teams to participate in the sports competitions within the framework of the 1st National Sports Festival in 2026; and set up booths to display and promote some OCOP products and local specialties during the festival.
