Ceremony to receive Certificate of Recognition as National Treasure for Wooden Buddha Statue of Mother Man Nuong at To Pagoda, Song Lieu Ward

(BNP) – On the afternoon of May 22, at Phuc Nghiem Pagoda (To Pagoda), a ceremony was held to receive the Certificate recognizing the wooden statue of Mother Man Nuong at To Pagoda as a National Treasure. Attending the ceremony was Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Thai.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong presents the Certificate of National Treasure recognition for the statue of Mother Man Nuong to representatives of the Bac Ninh Provincial leadership, Song Lieu Ward, and To Pagoda.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Dao Quang Khai, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; provincial departments and agencies; representatives of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Bac Ninh Province; and a large number of monks, nuns, Buddhists, and local people.

The statue of the Mother Buddha Man Nuong dates back to the 18th century, associated with the Four Dharma beliefs and symbolizing the interaction between Buddhism imported from India and the indigenous beliefs of the agricultural communities in the Red River Delta. The statue, crafted from wood and covered in red lacquer, holds exceptional historical, cultural, artistic, and religious value.

On February 3, 2026, the Prime Minister signed a Decision recognizing the statue of the Mother Buddha Man Nuong as a National Treasure, acknowledging its outstanding value associated with the Dau-Luy Lau region, the cradle of Vietnamese Buddhism.

Speaking at the reception ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong highly praised Bac Ninh's efforts in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. He also affirmed that the statue of the Mother Buddha Man Nuong is a unique artifact, a vivid testament to the cultural exchange and development of Vietnamese Buddhism.

The Deputy Minister requested Bac Ninh to continue strengthening the protection of national treasures; promote the application of science and technology and digital transformation in the management and preservation of heritage; and link the promotion of heritage values ​​with traditional education, scientific research, and the development of cultural tourism.

Representing the locality, Nguyen Van Thuoc, Secretary of the Party Committee of Song Lieu Ward, affirmed that the recognition of the Mother Man Nuong Buddha Statue as a National Treasure is both a great honor and a significant responsibility in preserving and promoting the value of the heritage.

He stated that the locality will continue strengthening management and protection efforts, while promoting communication activities and mobilizing social resources to further preserve and enhance the value of the treasure for local residents and visitors.
