(BNP) - Although lychee production in 2026 decreased by more than 35% compared to the previous season due to adverse weather conditions, thanks to maintained high selling prices and a continuously expanding consumer market, the total revenue from lychee and related services in the province is estimated to reach over VND 9,000 billion, an increase of 44.2% compared to 2025.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the 2026 lychee season in the province has basically ended. This year, the whole province harvested about 131,560 tons of lychees, of which early-ripening lychees accounted for about 50,725 tons, and main-season lychees accounted for about 80,835 tons. The majority of the production was consumed as fresh fruit; The remaining lychees are processed into dried lychees, canned lychees, frozen lychees, etc., serving both the domestic and export markets.
Bac Ninh lychees continue to be consumed favorably in both domestic and export markets. The domestic market plays a dominant role with approximately 95,660 tons, accounting for 72.7% of the total production, distributed through supermarkets, wholesale markets, e-commerce platforms, and online sales platforms. The export market reached approximately 35,900 tons, accounting for 27.3% of the total production; continuing to maintain its position in the traditional Chinese market and expanding to the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and many European countries. Notably, in 2026, Dragonberry International Vietnam Co., Ltd. and the Hanoi Irradiation Center will be licensed for irradiation by the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), facilitating the official export of lychees by sea to the US market.
A highlight of this year's lychee harvest is the consistently high prices from the beginning of the season, largely due to the fact that most of the cultivated area adheres to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and is covered by contracts with businesses and traders. Prices for early-ripening lychees ranged from 35,000 to 70,000 VND/kg; main-season lychees from 45,000 to 110,000 VND/kg; and the price of egg-shaped lychees even reached record highs of 200,000 to 300,000 VND/kg at times. As a result, revenue from lychees is estimated at over VND 7,260 billion, a 95.2% increase compared to the previous year; revenue from supporting activities and services reached over VND 1,740 billion. In addition to the value from the lychee fruit, people in the growing region also earn income from beekeeping for honey production and the development of experiential tourism.
