Chairman Vuong Quoc Tuan inspects number of irrigation works in province

(BNP) - In order to focus on responding to storm No. 3, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan on July 20, inspected a number of irrigation works in the province.

Chairman Tuan and the delegation inspected the pumping stations: Cam Bao (Xuan Cam commune), Truc Tay and Quang Bieu (Nenh ward), Cong Bun (Bac Giang ward).

Inspecting the pumping station system, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that these pumping stations were built many years ago. Cam Bao pumping station has now 22 units with a capacity of 1,000 m³/hour each.  Truc Tay pumping station includes 02 pumping plants for 1,817 hectares. Cong Bun pumping station has a designed drainage area of 5,576 hectares. Quang Bieu drainage pumping station and some drainage canal systems were renovated in 2005, including 09 pumping units with a flow rate of 1,800 m³/hour/unit.

To response to storm No. 3, pumping station operators proactively pumped away buffer water, cleaned the flow, repaired equipment, and kept all of their employees on duty.

At the inspection sites, the Chairman praised and highly appreciated the efforts of localities in promptly repairing, upgrading and overcoming incidents, ensuring the safety of irrigation works, contributing to improving the ability to prevent natural disasters during this year's storm season.

He requested that localities and units managing and operating irrigation works proactively pump and drain water to prevent flooding in industrial parks, clusters, and urban areas in the province as well as agricultural production.

The localities and units continue to closely monitor the developments of storm No. 3, proactively prevent and combat according to the "4 on-site" motto; have plans to ensure safety for people and irrigation works when storms occur, Tuan added.
